Sharing Successes through Performances
Learning how to perform in public is a significant educational component of music study. We believe that frequent performances in a friendly, informal atmosphere remove many symptoms of “stage fright” and give students the opportunity to develop skills necessary for successful performance in other aspects of life. While we do not anticipate that every student will participate, we encourage students to understand that performance participation is an important and fun way to share their talents with others. ISM offers the following performance opportunities:
Why Perform with Us?
ISM Student Recitals
Our semi-annual student recitals give students an opportunity to present to their friends and families a piece of music that has been mastered in the lessons. The decision to perform in public is always made between the instructor and the student. This experience enables students to gain feedback from their peers, feel more comfortable with performing, and develop confidence. Since recitals are also great motivators, they help instructors teach students how to develop stage presence, memorization, projection, communication and impact. By listening to others perform, students also broaden their exposure to many styles and instruments. Levels range from first year students to those with years of experience playing advanced repertoire on their instruments. Through these experiences, camaraderie is built among attendees. Family and friends are always encouraged to attend.
ISM Passport Concert Series
ISM offers an exciting and enriching Family Passport Concert Series, which consists of free and fun 45 minute concert programs, specially designed to engage young audiences with entertaining, fast-paced and interactive music geared for the whole family. These events present an opportunity to hear exceptional performances from our outstanding faculty of teaching artists. They offer a way to introduce different cultures, composers, explore how music tells stories in an interactive way, and learn what to listen to and how to listen to the music. Interactive demonstrations, explanations, and one-on-one interaction with musicians-performers are all elements of these exciting and captivating concerts.
Carnegie Hall Concerts & ISM Ambassador Program
ISM most talented students get the opportunity to perform at the prestigious Carnegie Hall, NY as part of our honors program. In addition, ISM Ambassador Program offers students the opportunity to showcase their music at community centers, senior centers, libraries, assisted living facilities and hospitals. This program takes the mission of the International School of Music beyond the walls of our classrooms and out into the community, allowing students to share the joys of music with very appreciative audiences.
