Sharing Successes through Performances

Learning how to perform in public is a significant educational component of music study. We believe that frequent performances in a friendly, informal atmosphere remove many symptoms of “stage fright” and give students the opportunity to develop skills necessary for successful performance in other aspects of life. While we do not anticipate that every student will participate, we encourage students to understand that performance participation is an important and fun way to share their talents with others. ISM offers the following performance opportunities:

Why Perform with Us?

Getting up on stage in front of a large audience can be intimidating, but with the right preparations, it is a skill that can be mastered and utilized in many different areas of life.

Performing is a natural way of concluding the efforts and preparations the student has put into learning how to play a music composition.

Performing for any group of people is an emotional experience not only for the performer but also for the audience as well. Audience members will appreciate the performance, but one never knows who in the audience will additionally be inspired to perhaps try a new program or work harder at one they are already studying.

ISM Student Recitals

Our semi-annual student recitals give students an opportunity to present to their friends and families a piece of music that has been mastered in the lessons. The decision to perform in public is always made between the instructor and the student. This experience enables students to gain feedback from their peers, feel more comfortable with performing, and develop confidence. Since recitals are also great motivators, they help instructors teach students how to develop stage presence, memorization, projection, communication and impact. By listening to others perform, students also broaden their exposure to many styles and instruments. Levels range from first year students to those with years of experience playing advanced repertoire on their instruments. Through these experiences, camaraderie is built among attendees. Family and friends are always encouraged to attend.
