Piano Lessons in Bethesda
Piano Lessons at the International School of Music in Bethesda allow students to learn proper fundamentals with a flexible core curriculum designed to fit each student’s needs. Students are encouraged to choose the music that they most want to learn, and teachers help them develop a deeper connection to that music. From J.S. Bach to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Tchaikovsky, general Classical Music, Movie themes, and Pop/Rock music, a student can learn it all at the International School of Music. Beginning piano students start with a set curriculum outlined by our piano teachers along with method books recommended by the instructors. They learn basic music theory and work on technical exercises, such as hand position, fingering and playing scales and chords, all while learning well-known and simple songs. As they progress, students work on developing proficiency in stylistic techniques such as legato, staccato, glissando, sight reading, exploring harmonics and working on speed – runs, fills and solos. Other topics that may be covered in piano lessons include developing improvisation skills and studying the various types of genre-based playing techniques and styles, such as Jazz, Ragtime, Blues, Rock, Pop or Classical piano. Our piano teachers are dedicated to tailoring music lessons to each student’s interests by focusing on the student’s personal musical goals while creating an encouraging and supportive atmosphere. Whether playing solo, in an ensemble, or just for fun at home, students will receive a thorough piano education in an environment of encouragement and excellence.
