For our young violin students, we recommend starting with a small size violin. Here, children are introduced to the building blocks of music: rhythm, pitch, note reading, and technique through playing fun simple melodies and chords. Parental support at this stage is very important as students develop practice habits in-between their weekly lessons.

Here at ISM, we have violin adult students of all levels, from those picking up a new hobby and starting from scratch to those who played when they were young and are looking to get back into the swing of things, to
advanced students who want to hone their skills even further! A lifelong love of music is a wonderful thing,
and something our violin teachers are ready to help students of all ages engage with at their own speed.

Our thought-out and intentionally sequenced curriculum is designed to teach all the necessary skills of violin to help beginner students build the foundation needed to move forward. Learn about all of the essential techniques, like correct posture, developing a great tone, playing in time, keeping the bow straight, and so much more!

Students at the intermediate level will continue to develop the techniques that were first taught in the beginner level, polishing them to help guide them towards advanced lessons. Types of intermediate lessons include building a beautiful repertoire, working on spiccato, sautille, and other bow techniques, expressive phrasing, and many other skills.

Advanced lessons work on continuing to polish skills and techniques so they are performing to the best of their ability. In these lessons, students will learn to add nuance and sophistication, including interpretation to their playing. Further, these lessons will help improve the quality of students’ practicing.

Our violin teachers utilize multiple violin method programs in their teaching. Method books are used in addition to recital repertoire to promote enjoyment, excellence, and creativity. Our teachers work with students of all ages and offer instruction to students of all levels, whether they are beginner, intermediate, or advanced. Online violin lessons provide students with the chance to work on proper fundamentals through method books, technical exercises, and music theory. Students can study violin music from a range of styles.

Optional violin evaluations contribute to our students’ long-term success and help to ensure that they are progressing at their own pace. Certificate and diploma programs are offered by ISM, both through its own program and by meeting the standards of ABRSM, ASTA, MTNA, and other national organizations.

One of the most important parts about music is sharing it with our community, which is why we love seeing
our violin students perform. We have two major recital seasons each year, in the winter and the spring, for
which we encourage all of our students to participate in! These violin recitals are held at local university recital halls and are organized and run by our professional administrative staff. There performances providing our violin students a wonderful yet casual environment to share the joy of music with their friends and family!

As being part of a large ISM community, our violin students have many opportunities to participate in ISM’s ensembles! In these ensemble classes, our violin students get to learn how to play with other musicians, coached by one of our amazing faculty. Participation in violin ensembles is an enriching part of musical development and helps refine musicianship, awareness of blending, balancing, communication, all while experiencing the joy of making music together.

Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced player, the school provides a range of scheduling options, including one-on-one sessions, group classes, and online lessons. This adaptability allows students to learn at their own pace, ensuring they can balance their musical education with other commitments. Our high-quality violin lessons are available in-person at one of our locations or online through video conferencing systems like Skype or Zoom. For online lessons, all students need is a laptop or tablet, a reliable internet connection, and their instrument! Students receive the same kind of attention they would if they were participating in in-person lessons. Our faculty are devoted to ensuring that students of all ages and levels understand the materials they are working with and feel confident in virtual lessons.
