Since 2004, the International School of Music has made music education, performance, and hands-on experiences available to thousands of children through our multifaceted outreach program. These initiatives take the mission of ISM beyond the walls of our classrooms and out into the community. Our hope is to improve student outcomes in both academic and artistic achievement. We would like for everyone to delight in the joys of music whether discovering the adventures in a great piece of music or experiencing the pure excitement of performing. Our musicians and teachers work in depth with students, providing them with musical opportunities and performances to which they might not otherwise be exposed. Currently, ISM serves numerous students off-site at neighborhood schools, preschools, youth centers, libraries, children's hospitals, and senior centers in Montgomery County and Washington DC. These programs include music classes for toddlers and their parents, orchestra sectionals, career days, instrument petting zoos, music instruction in particular instruments, performances, workshops, residencies in schools, after school programs, and performances at fundraising events. Our teaching philosophy is mirrored in these programs in that they embody a developmental approach to music education which considers the individual needs and capabilities of each student. All programming is provided at no cost to the participants and is sustained entirely by the International School of Music. ISM embraces the opportunity for collaboration with other organizations, and remains open to designing creative partnerships that further its mission to bring music to a broader audience within the community.
